Privacy Policy

Degree Daddy ("we", "our", or "the app") is a cold plunge and sauna session tracking app for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.

1. Data We Collect

Session data — When you log a session, the app records:

• Session type (cold plunge or sauna)
• Duration and start time
• Temperature (entered by you)
• Rating (optional, entered by you)
• Location coordinates and a location label — the one you pick from a list — Home, a nearby venue name (e.g., gym or spa), or your "City, State" (only if you grant location permission; Home is preselected)

Profile data — You may optionally enter your name and email in Settings. This is stored locally and in your iCloud account only.

Health data — If you enable Apple Health integration, the app writes each session to HealthKit as a workout (duration and temperature, plus a water temperature sample for cold plunges). If you use the Apple Watch app and allow it, the Watch reads your heart rate during an active session to show it on screen and save it with that workout in Apple Health. The iPhone and iPad apps do not read health data. Health data is never sent to us.

Strava profile — If you connect Strava, the app shows your Strava name and profile photo in Settings. The name and the photo's web address are stored in your device's Keychain, and the photo is loaded from Strava when Settings shows it. They are not copied to iCloud.

Photos — If you choose to save a share card to your camera roll (for sharing to Strava or social media), the app requests permission to add photos. The app does not read or access your existing photo library.

2. How Your Data Is Stored

• On your device — All session and profile data is stored locally using Apple's SwiftData framework, which encrypts data at rest via iOS data protection.
• iCloud sync — If you are signed into iCloud, your data syncs automatically across your Apple devices via CloudKit. This data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple. We do not have access to your iCloud data.
• No external database — We do not store your session data, profile data, or health data on any server we operate.

3. Third-Party Services

Apple HealthKit — If you enable Apple Health integration, the app writes workout records to HealthKit. This data stays on your device and in your iCloud Health data. We never sell or share your health data.

Strava — If you choose to connect your Strava account, the app creates activity entries on Strava for your sessions. This requires you to authorize the app via Strava's OAuth2 flow. Your Strava access tokens are stored securely in your device's Keychain. We use a server-side proxy solely to exchange authorization codes for tokens — your Strava credentials are never stored on our servers. Strava may collect and use data related to your use of their API in connection with this app. If you disconnect your Strava account in the app's Settings, all Strava-related data (sync status and activity references) is immediately deleted from your device.

Apple CoreLocation & MapKit — If you grant location permission, the app uses your device's GPS at the moment you save a session to determine your location. The app also uses Apple's MapKit to search for nearby venues (gyms, spas, pools) so you can optionally tag your session with a specific location. This sends your coordinates to Apple's MapKit servers to retrieve nearby points of interest — no data is sent to us. The selected location label (venue name or "City, State") is stored with your session. The app uses "When In Use" permission only and does not track your location in the background. Location permission is optional and can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings.

Apple Watch — If you use the Apple Watch app, each session you save on the Watch (session type, start time, duration, temperature, and whether the Watch already saved it to Apple Health) is sent directly to your paired iPhone with Apple's WatchConnectivity framework, and your iPhone sends back your streak, temperature unit, last temperatures, and Safety Check settings. This transfer is device-to-device between your own Apple devices; none of it is sent to us.

Safety Check Alarm and Lock Screen timer — Safety Check alarms are scheduled on your device — with Apple's AlarmKit on iOS 26 and later, and as a local notification on earlier versions — and the running timer is shown on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island as a Live Activity. Both run entirely on your device.

4. Analytics and Crash Diagnostics

The app uses TelemetryDeck, a privacy-first analytics service, to collect anonymous usage signals (e.g., which features are used, session counts). TelemetryDeck does not collect personal information, device identifiers, or IP addresses. No data collected by TelemetryDeck can be used to identify you. The app uses Sentry to report crashes, freezes, and errors so we can fix them. A report contains technical details — the error and stack trace, app version, device model, and operating system version — and a random identifier created on install, which is not linked to your name, email, Strava account, or health data. Screenshots and view contents are not attached, and personal data collection is turned off in the Sentry SDK. Sentry may use the network address of the request to estimate an approximate country and city. Learn more at sentry.io/privacy.

This website, degreedaddy.com, uses Google Analytics to measure page visits. Google Analytics may set cookies and collect information such as pages viewed, referring site, and approximate location. It does not receive any data from the app. Learn more at policies.google.com/privacy.

5. Data We Do Not Collect

• We do not use advertising SDKs or ad networks
• We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties
• We do not track you across apps or websites
• We do not collect device identifiers for advertising purposes
• We do not collect personally identifiable information through analytics or crash diagnostics

6. Your Choices and Controls

• Location — You can deny or revoke location permission at any time in iOS Settings. Sessions will save without location data.
• Apple Health — You can enable or disable HealthKit integration in the app's Settings. You can also manage permissions in iOS Settings > Health > Data Access & Devices > Degree Daddy, including heart rate access for the Apple Watch app.
• Alarms — Safety Check alarms are off until you turn them on in the app's Settings, and you can turn them off at any time.
• Strava — You can disconnect your Strava account at any time in the app's Settings. Disconnecting immediately deletes all Strava-related data from your device, including sync status and activity references. You can also revoke access at strava.com/settings/apps.
• iCloud sync — You can disable iCloud for the app in iOS Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud.
• Delete your data — You can archive individual sessions in the app, which removes them from History; archived sessions stay stored on your device and in iCloud. Removing the app deletes the data stored on that device. If iCloud sync is enabled, the copy in your iCloud account remains until you delete it in iOS Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Manage Account Storage. Workouts already saved to Apple Health stay in Health until you delete them there, and activities pushed to Strava stay on Strava until you delete them there.

7. Children's Privacy

Degree Daddy is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
